Last weekend was spend working with fellow horse-logger Barbara Haddrill putting on two one-day courses for those interested in horse logging.  The courses were fully booked and we had a good bunch of people on both days.  They learned about the horses, harness and equipment that we use and had a chance to have a go with Barbara's mare Tyler and with Elza through an obstacle course and also moving some timber down from CAT's woodland.

Clunton Coppice

Posted by Nick Burton on Sunday, March 10, 2013, In : Shows and demonstrations
I spent yesterday horse logging at Clunton Coppice, a lovely Shropshire Wildlife Trust site.  This was part of the trust's open day at the site to demonstrate what they are doing and to encourage people to join up.  For Elza and I, it was more than a demonstration as we had some timber to move from where it had been felled to create some glades along the main footpath.

Not only was it my birthday but today was the second day of Centenary celebrations at our parish community centre. What is now the Rhiwhiriaeth Community Centre building was opened in 1912, originally as a school, and on Saturday Rebecca and I, along with Beck's mum and dad, dressed up in our Edwardian best and Elza pulled my wooden cart to become part of the historical display.

Festival of the Working Horse

Posted by Nick Burton on Monday, July 9, 2012, In : Shows and demonstrations
Just back from an excellent, if wet-at-times, weekend at the East of England Show in Peterborough.  The show hosted the first ever Festival of the Working Horse which featured genuine working horses from across the country.  We demonstrated a variety of logging equipment as well as small scale cultivation with horse drawn ploughs, hoes and ridgers.  I was there with my former colleagues Matt and Claudia Waller from Hawthorn Heavy Horses who were there specifically to demonstrate their horse-d...
